Traditional Games Certification Clinic in - Wabasca, Alberta Canada -  Reserved for Treat 8 School employees and community to a maximum of 40 participants. Sponsored by Treaty 8 Schools.

Registration: Level I only this event. Future Level II requires previous Level I certification.

Renewal units and college undergraduate and graduate credit available through MSU-Northern for $120.

Monday, March 22, 2010


8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
Opening of Blanket Ceremony & introduction to the history, culture, and events of the research, resurrection, and restoration of Plains Indian games to Montana tribes.

9:30 a.m.
Rotation through game stations. (Games of skill, chance, and intuition).

Stations: Sticks in Fist (Intuition & probability), Rock in Fist (observation & intuition), Dice Game (chance & observation), Guessing Sticks (estimation) & Guessing Rocks (estimation)


10:30 a.m.
Break

10:45 a.m.

Outside on grass area: Ring the Stick (manual dexterity & hand eye coordination), Make the Stick Jump (Throwing skill for power and short distance accuracy), Kickball Racing (speed & eye-foot coordination) and Run & Scream (lung capacity & running ability), Tie-up (Problem Solving), Stone House (speed, coordination, dexterity, observation in patterns, and imagination

11:45 – 1:00 Lunch

1:30 p.m.

Outside Introduction to: Feather Darts & Tops (skill & knowledge of how tops work), Y- arrow game (throwing for accuracy), . Grass Snake (Strength and throwing technique), Hoop & Stake (throwing skill for accuracy), ), Ring and Pin (manaual dexterity and eye-hand coordination)

2:45 p.m.

1. Doubleball field 2. Shinney field 3. Hoop & Dart Games field

4. Lacrosse field


5:00 p.m. Break for Dinner

7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Books and sources of reference for researching the traditional games. Review for Certification test, MSU-Northern credit studies, renewal units, culture questions. (place to be announced)

8:30 - 5:00

Crafting of the equipment for the listed games. Handout given.


Participants will meet in the crafting area for a full day of crafting. Breaks will be taken as needed. Lunch time will be group agreement.

Wednesday, March 24, 2010

Groups will meet at 9:00 a.m. Level I will finish crafting and prepare for certification test at 11:00 a.m. They will be finished with clinic at noon.

Certificates will be mailed within two weeks of the finish of the clinic. The Board of Directors of the International Traditional Games Society sincerely hopes that each participant carry their new knowledge of the culture and history of American Indian games respectfully into their own families and teaching programs.

Level II and Level III training is needed to become a clinic instructor.
