Traditional Games Certification Clinic Level I, II & III training for college students and teachers

Sponsored by Salish Kootenai College



 Level I, II and Level III
Levels II and III certification clinics require prior Level I & II certification.
Also offered: 2 graduate credits from MSU-Northern (additional fee of $150.00), Renewal Units from OPI free to certified teachers, or undergraduate credit from SKC if registered.

8:00 – 8:30 Registration (Louie Caye Building on the South campus)

Level I & II

8:30 Opening and welcome: Host (Louie Caye Building located on the South Campus)

Prayer and introductions of participants

 

9:00 Opening of Blanket & introduction to the history, culture, and events of the research, resurrection, and restoration of Plains Indian games to Montana tribes.

9:45 Break

10:00 Rotation: Games of skill, chance, and intuition.

            Level I (Louie Caye Building located on the South Campus)

1.  Sticks in Fist (Intuition & probability) and Tie Up

2. Rock in Fist (observation & intuition) 

3. Dice Game (chance & observation) 

4. Guessing Sticks (estimation) & Guessing Rocks (estimation)

 

            Level II (Louie Caye Building located on the South Campus)

1. Feather Darts (observation, knowledge of feathers, eye-hand coordination)

2. Tops (skill & knowledge of how tops work)

3. Arrow games

11:45 Lunch (provided by SKC)

 

12:30 Rotation: Skills of speed and dexterity

            Level I (Louie Caye Building located on the South Campus)

All:  Stone House (speed, coordination, dexterity, observation in patterns, and imagination)

1. Ring the Stick (manual dexterity & hand eye coordination)

2. Y- arrow game (throwing for accuracy

3. Hoop & Stake (throwing skill for accuracy).

            Level II (Louie Caye Building located on the South Campus)

1. Ring & Pin (manual dexterity & eye-hand coordination

2. Other hand held games.

 

1:30 – 2:00 Rotation: Games of Speed, accuracy, and endurance

            Level I (Louie Caye Building located on the South Campus)

1. Make the Stick Jump (Throwing skill for power and short distance accuracy) 

2. Kickball Racing (speed & eye-foot coordination)

3. Run & Scream (lung capacity & running ability)

8:30 a.m. to  9:30 a.m. Level I & III Rock in the Fist Tournament and Giveaway (Joe McDonald Health Center, Camas Room)

 

                          Level II Crafting (Joe McDonald Health Center, Camas Room)

 

9:30 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.  All levels crafting  (Joe McDonald Health Center, Camas Room)

 

11:45 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. Lunch (provided by SKC)

 

12:15 – 4:30 p.m.   Finish Crafting and clean-up

 

4:45 Level III meeting (Joe McDonald Health Center, Camas Room)

 

        *Levels I & II dismissed for day.

 

Saturday, October 22, 2011

8:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Instructor signature required on finished equipment.  Get photo taken with equipment. (Johnny Arlee Victor Charlo Theater)

 

10:00 a.m. – 11:20 a.m.  Review of information and research and preparation for tests for Levels I & II. (Johnny Arlee Victor Charlo Theater)

 

11:20 a.m. Closing prayer (SKC- Johnny Arlee Victor Charlo Theater)

11:30 a.m. Tests given (Johnny Arlee Victor Charlo Theater)

 

Good travels home.  Certificates will be mailed within two weeks.  Use new information with great happiness for family, friends, and jobs.
