Sample Schedule & Costs for Traditional Games Clinic

 

Friday

 

1:00 – 3:00 PM or 7:00 to 9:00 PM.  Introduction to the history, culture, and events of the research, resurrection, and restoration of Plains Indian games to Montana tribes.

 

3:00 PM – 3:30 PM.  Break and set-up stations while students are arriving from the schools.

 

3:30 PM. – 5:30 PM.   Rotation through stations, learning the games of physical dexterity, skill, and stamina. 

 

  3:30 p.m. Games: Ring the Stick, Kickball Racing, Make the Stick Jump, Stone People, and doubleball.

  4:30 p.m.  Games: Hoop & Dart (Salish), Hoop & Long Arrow (Blackfeet), Shinney, Lacrosse.

 

5:30 PM.  Break for Dinner if continuing at 7:00 to 9:00 for Introduction.   If participants attended the 1:00 to 3:00 session, they would not attend this section.

 

   Saturday

 

8:30 – 10:00 AM. Games of Intuition & Chance (Selected helpers would go to harvest willows and chokecherry woods for crafting)

Guessing Sticks, Hiding Rock, Rock in the Fist, Plum Stone games

 

10:00 AM – 5:00 PM Crafting of the equipment for the above listed games.  Lunch on own unless potluck provided.

 

7:00 – 8:00 PM  Computer Room…Web sites, library references, tribal connections for research on games for math, science, social studies, art/crafting, health & wellness.

 

     Sunday

 

8:30 – 10:30 AM.  (Westside Center) Finish crafting games, review information. 

10:30 AM.  Clean-up

11:00 AM.  Written Test

11:30 AM.  Oral Test taken individually or with presenter/teachers.

Closing Ceremony at noon.

 

Contract includes: Supplies to make equipment for 40 participants ($840.00), four traditional games teacher/consultants, certificates, testing, and curriculum materials.

 

Contract Costs: $5,000.00 / 26-40 participants or $195.00 ea./ 10-25 participants.
